If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past couple of years, it’s this. Your health habits don’t just influence how you look or feel. They directly impact how you perform in business, how clearly you think, and how consistently you show up.

In this article and everything in the Health and Wellness department at JohnMcLauchlan.com, I have a mission. That mission is sharing what I've learned about the food we eat and the daily exposure to misinformation about it.
Who Wants To Be Normal Anyway
For a long time, like many people over 40, I accepted certain things as normal. Energy dips, lack of focus, carrying extra weight, and that general sense that you’re not quite operating at your best. The turning point came when I decided to stop guessing and start learning what my body actually responds to.
Over the last two years, I’ve followed a structured approach built around a carnivore diet, regular fasting, and targeted supplementation. One of the key additions has been a daily superdose of creatine at around 15g, alongside other supportive nutrients. This wasn’t about following a trend. It was about testing, refining, and paying attention to results.
And the results have been undeniable.
I lost four stone in excess weight (56lbs), which in itself was a major shift. But more importantly, the internal changes were even more powerful. The brain fog that used to slow me down lifted. My energy levels stabilised, allowing me to stay focused throughout the day without the usual peaks and crashes. Mentally, I became sharper, more decisive, and far more consistent in how I approached my work.
Good Health Habits = 10x Performance
That’s where the real connection to business performance comes in.
When your energy is steady, you don’t procrastinate in the same way. When your mind is clear, decision-making becomes faster and more confident. When your body feels strong, you carry yourself differently. All of this feeds directly into how you show up in your business.
What you eat plays a central role in all of this. Most people underestimate just how much their diet is working against them. High sugar intake, processed foods, and constant snacking create instability in the body. Energy spikes, then crashes. Focus comes and goes. Over time, that inconsistency becomes your baseline.
I experienced that firsthand, and I also experienced what happens when you remove those variables.
My Approach To Maximising Health
By shifting to a carnivore-based approach, I simplified everything. My body responded well to it… Inflammation reduced, and my energy systems became far more efficient. Fasting added another layer, helping regulate how my body uses fuel and giving me a level of discipline that carries over into business.
The addition of creatine, particularly at a higher daily intake, supported both physical and mental performance. It’s not a magic solution on its own, but as part of a wider system, it plays a role in maintaining the energy your body and brain need to operate properly.
Now, I’m not saying this exact approach is right for everyone. That’s an important point. The real takeaway is that you need to learn what works for you. But what I am saying is this. If your diet is poor, your performance will suffer. There’s no way around it.
Focus: In Your Online Business
For those building an online business, this becomes even more important. You’re relying on your own discipline, your own focus, and your own ability to execute day in, day out. If your energy is inconsistent, your results will be too.
That’s why I’ve made health and wellness a core part of what I share on johnmclauchlan.com. Not because I’ve got all the answers, but because I’ve put in the time, tested different approaches, and seen what happens when things start to align.
Getting your diet right isn’t just about health. It’s about giving yourself the best possible chance to succeed in everything else you do.
When you feel better, you think better. When you think better, you perform better. And when you perform better consistently, that’s when real progress happens.
It all starts with what you put into your body.
