Hello, there I'm John McLauchlan welcome to another episode of McLauchlan's marketing muse the web show that simply shows you how to build a six-figure internet business.
Today I want to talk about one of those elusive subjects that a lot of people don't really understand and that's how to become an authority in your marketplace stay tuned.
One of the core principles of becoming successful is about becoming an authority on what you talk about. A lot of people say well okay I've only been in this business five minutes how do I become an authority in my niche? How do you do it?
Well, it all comes back to doing something and this is the whole focus of what I'm going to talk about is that you need to learn things. Whatever it is you're going to learn you need to learn it and then you need to actually apply what you've learned. Really really really important to apply what you've learned and get some resources and then you teach what you've learned. The problem is people learn just teach it so there's no bridge in between.
Teaching people what they've learned previously from somebody else is just copying everybody else, not modelling.
Modelling is when you actually do something and you apply your own learning, your own things that you've learned into teaching somebody else. How do you become an authority? Actually, the process of becoming an Authority online is fairly easy if you know what you're talking about.
If you try and con people into thinking that you're successful or into thinking that you know what you're talking about and clearly you don't then people will see through you. You've got to be a very accomplished actor to convince somebody that you know what he's talking about.
When you go from experience people understand that they can see it in your face, your facial language. Non-verbal communication you know speaks volumes I mean you can listen to what I'm saying but it's a lot of people I'll just be going “wow, wow wow” because we don't really listen, we kind of engage and when we engage with people that's when the real learning takes place.
That's when the real transcendence of being able to be authoritative to people comes across. It's not really much to do with what we're talking about, it's what we've experienced that people really pick up on.
Someone that's been somewhere.
If you ever listen to a world war two veteran or any war Veteran and they start speaking about their experiences it's not what they say is what they don't say. People can really engage with what they're saying because of the way that they are saying it.
That's how you become an authority so remember you need to learn to do and teach, do not forget about the do because if you go straight from learning something to teaching it people will see right through. The process of trying to become an authority will fail badly and remember if you've got to try and be an authority you're going to lose credibility straight away.
If you actually do things and go through the processes the pains blood sweat and tears of actually doing stuff and failing at it and then eventually succeeding then you can impart that knowledge to the people you're trying to teach. So how do you build Authority? You do stuff and then you teach you don't forget that.
Okay, I'm John McLauchlan hope that helps your business and we'll speak soon.
