On the surface, AI looks impressive. Fast, efficient, consistent.
But spend a bit of time actually watching and reading this content, and something starts to stand out. It all feels very similar. It lacks something. There’s no real depth to it, no personality behind it, no sense that there’s a real person on the other side.
And people are starting to notice.
⇒ Quick Win
The next time you sit down to create content, resist the urge to open AI first.
Instead, press record and talk for a couple of minutes about something you’ve learned recently. Speak as you would to a friend, without trying to polish or perfect it.
You’ll find that your delivery becomes more natural, and that natural tone is what your audience connects with most.
People Know When Something Feels Off
Your audience might not always be able to explain it, but they can feel it.
They’ll watch a video and think it’s fine, but it doesn’t quite land. They’ll read a post and take it in, but it doesn’t stay with them. There’s a subtle disconnect, and that disconnect matters more than most people realise.
Because when something doesn’t feel real, people don’t trust it.
This is where a big shift is happening. As more AI content floods the market, more people are craving something genuine. They want to hear from someone who’s actually been through something, someone who speaks in a way that feels natural and unforced.
That creates an opportunity.
The Gap Is Opening Up
Right now, there’s a widening gap between the two types of content.
On one side, you’ve got mass-produced AI output. Quick to create, easy to scale, but often lacking any real soul or connection.
On the other side, you’ve got real people. Sharing real experiences. Speaking in their own voice. Taking the time to connect (imperfectly) rather than just produce.
That gap is where the opportunity sits.
If you’re an affiliate or digital marketer, especially if you’ve been around long enough to see trends come and go, you’ll recognise this pattern. Something new appears, everyone rushes towards it, it gets overused, and then the people who stand out are the ones who do something slightly different.
Right now, that “something different” is simply being real.
Advanced Strategy (Click to expand)
Start building your content around your ongoing journey rather than isolated pieces.
Record videos where you share what you’re learning and what you’re testing. Then use AI to support you behind the scenes by turning that core content into shorter clips, written posts, or emails.
This allows you to increase your output without losing your voice.
Over time, this creates a powerful balance. Your audience experiences you as consistent and authentic, while your content continues to grow in reach. The key is to keep the front end human and let the efficiency happen in the background.
You Already Have What Most People Are Trying to Fake
There’s a temptation to think you need to keep up with all of this. To produce more, to automate more, to somehow compete with the volume that AI can generate.
But you don’t.
Because the one thing AI can’t replicate is you.
Your experiences, your way of explaining things, your perspective on what works and what doesn’t. That’s built over the years. It’s not something that can be generated in seconds.
For many marketers over 40, this is actually an advantage. You’ve lived a bit, you’ve tried things, succeeded at some, failed at others, and learned along the way. That’s exactly the kind of insight your audience relates to.
They’re not looking for perfection. They’re looking for someone who understands where they are.
Use AI as a Tool, Not a Substitute
None of this means you should ignore AI altogether. That would be missing the point.
Used properly, AI can be incredibly helpful. It can speed up certain parts of your workflow, help you organise your thoughts, and give you a starting point when you’re not sure where to begin.
But it should support you, not replace you.
The problem comes when people hand everything over to it. When they stop thinking, stop creating, and stop communicating in their own voice. At that point, they’re no longer building a connection. They’re just adding to the noise.
And your audience can tell the difference.
Action step (Click to expand)
Create one piece of content today where you are fully present in it.
You can use AI to help you gather your thoughts if needed, but when it comes to delivery, make it entirely your own. Speak directly to your audience, keep it conversational, and publish it without overthinking.
The goal isn't perfection. The goal is connection.
The Simple Approach Still Wins
There’s no complicated strategy needed here.
Turn the camera on. Speak to your audience as you would speak to a friend. Share something useful, something you’ve learned, or something you’re currently working through.
Keep it simple. Keep it honest. Keep it real.
In a space that’s becoming increasingly artificial, authenticity stands out more than ever. Not because it’s clever, but because it’s becoming rare.
And when you show up consistently in that way, people start to notice. They start to trust you. And over time, that trust is what builds your business.
